- Content is more important than appearance. - A web site has to look clean and professional but the primary goal of the graphic presentation is not to distract from the information. Too often 80% of the effort is paid to the look and 20% to content. The opposite should be true.
- Statement of Faith should be included. It is one of the first things
website visitors look for when seeking a church
or Christian school.
- A clear presentation of the gospel should be included so that when your site is viewed by people seeking answers the answer is available.
- If available a sample of several sermons or
school chapels should be included on your web site. Our experience shows that audio significantly increases the chances that a web site visitor will turn into a church visitor.
- More than 65% of households have Internet connections, and they are increasingly using the Web
as the first place to search for information over other more traditional sources. Some churches are seeing
such positive results from their web presence they have decreased
their Yellow Pages spending.
- Include all basic information needed by church
or school families like schedules, standard meeting times and programs. Any frequently asked question by a member, visitor
or prospective school family should be answered on the web site.
- Keep information on the web site up to date. It doesn't take much time to keep the current events calendar up to date. A dated web site will make a bad impression.
- Include basic information regarding the
pastoral staff, school administration and
faculty. This doesn't have to include pictures but can. Other leadership information is helpful but not a requirement.
- Use caution when placing pictures of children on your web site. Make sure parents have given permission and under no circumstances identify the children even by first name.
- Never place information regarding Missionaries supported by your church on your site. One of the first things repressive governments do when American's show up in their country is google them. Missionaries have been persecuted and forced to leave countries because their name and mission was discovered on a supporting church's web site.
